iOS: Push Notifications and Alerts

*I have an active alert in the app but did not receive a push notification.

Not all alerts that appear in the Storm Shield App will produce a push notification.

You see, the red Alerts box in the top right-hand corner will be for all county-based alerts and Storm Shield will send you a push notification when your location pin will be directly impacted by the alert.  You see, we use a polygon alerting system to notify our users when inclement weather is headed your way.  Other apps and systems alert their users based on county-based alerts.  We have found that our polygon alerts are more granular.

For example: If you live in the southern section of a large county and there is inclement weather that will impact the northern section of the county, we will not send you an alert.  However, you can see that alert within the app.  We will alert you only when your specific location will be impacted.

Please see FAQ: Not Receiving Alerts - iOS for more detailed information if you are not receiving alerts.

*Why do I see a Storm Shield push notification icon, but do not hear the audio?

In our continued testing of severe weather alert push notifications, we have confirmed that the Storm Shield App push notifications are working as expected.

When you receive a push notification from Storm Shield App, you will hear an audio notification like this:

"Beep! Beep! Beep! The National Weather Service has issued a <Name of Alert>."

To verify your phone is set to hear audio for Storm Shield push notifications you will want to check the following in your phone settings:

1) Under your phone Settings > Notifications > Storm Shield App you will want to make sure you have Allow Notifications enabled:

2) Check the volume and ring button on the side of your phone.  If the switch shows orange, it means your iPhone is on silent mode.

3) Check inside the app's Settings under "Manage Weather Alerts" to make sure you are subscribed to all available alerts you wish to receive a push notification for.  A checkmark indicates a subscribed alert. (For more detail see here).

If you continue to experience issues with alerts or have questions, feel free to reach out to our support team by using the Contact link under Support inside the settings of the app.
