iOS: How To Access Your Local Provider Information

Modified on Fri, 24 Sep 2021 at 12:59 PM

Storm Shield brings you forecast videos and live video streams during severe weather coverage (when available) in these local media provider markets: Denver, Detroit, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Nashville, Omaha, Tulsa, Tampa, West Palm Beach, Ft. Myers, Milwaukee, Green Bay, Lansing-Jackson, Baltimore, Buffalo, Phoenix, Tucson, Las Vegas, San Diego, Bakersfield, Boise, Tallahassee.

When you install your app, you can choose your local media provider based on your home location. After your app has been assigned one of these local media providers, the Live Video button and Forecasted video will appear on the information screen for any location that falls within that selected local market.  Your local provider will also provide the active closings when available. Please note, your local provider's icon will appear in the lower left hand side of the screen.  If you do not see your local provider's information, please try uninstalling and reinstalling the app.

Once you install the app, please follow the instructions below to set up your local provider in Storm Shield.

This should be the first screen you see.  Here you want to choose Allow so Storm Shield can use your current location.  This will allow the app to know where you are at all times so push notifications can be sent to you wherever you are (assuming you give the app permission to send push alerts).

Next you are going to see a pop-up screen where we are asking you to allow Storm Shield to access your location.  Here we recommend you choose 'Allow While Using App'. After you have the app set up, you can go into the app Settings > Location  Settings to choose Always if you would like the app to follow your location as your current location changes.  By setting the location to Always this will ensure that you are notified of inclement weather around you at all times.

If you allowed Storm Shield to access your location, as recommended, your home location should populate here.

If so, please tap on Yes.

The next screen that will appear is an informational screen that tells you about our premium features.  Here just tap on Next at the bottom.

This is where you can choose to purchase the Weather Bundle.  If you are not interested, just tap on Not Now.  If you are interested, tap Buy Weather Bundle and it will prompt you through the purchasing process.  If you do not purchase now, that's okay, you can purchase later on within the app if you wish.  Please note, you are not required to subscribe to these in-app purchases in order to use the app they way you did previously.  These are brand-new features that are options for those users who wish to purchase.

In order to receive notifications of severe weather alerts, please tap on Receive Alerts.

Your Home Location will appear as the blue pin on the map.

There are 3 ways to access the weather information from the local provider:

1. If you've tapped on your Home Location Pin, tap on the Information Icon

2. Tap on the Local Provider's icon at the bottom left corner of the screen

3. Tap on the More option located in the location card

Once the local weather information populates, scroll up.

Once you scroll through the information page, here is where your local provider will display their information that can be accessed.

Tap on the play button to view the information.
